A Lifeline for the Hunter

Lifeline Newcastle & Hunter has been operating a 24 Hour Telephone Counselling Service in the Hunter since 1966. The service provides the opportunity for people to reach out and speak to another person knowing that they will be heard, treated respectfully and with full anonymity and confidentiality. Our unique position as the "ears" of Newcastle and the Hunter allows us to identify and react to the specific needs of our community.

As an extension of our crisis telephone counselling service and in response to the needs that we have identified in our community, Lifeline Newcastle & Hunter provides Personal Counselling, Financial and Gambling Counselling as well as Community Education Programs designed to enhance living skills and improve self-confidence.

Events

Throughout the year, Lifeline Newcastle & Hunter hosts a variety of fundraising events to support our vital service.

2010 Steel Magnolia Award
On the 12th of March, Lifeline Newcastle & Hunter will host an award that recognises a local woman who has overcome personal adversity and hardship and given something back to her local community. The award is called the Steel Magnolia and is given to women of great courage, vision and strength.
Now in its 6th year, the Steel Magnolia Award has become an established and prestigious event in our community
The Steel Magnolia Award is a significant event for women as it is celebrated on or near International Women’s Day. It is a significant event for Lifeline Newcastle & Hunter as we are able to raise much needed funds to support our crisis telephone counselling service.

Upper Hunter Steel Magnolia Award
The Upper Hunter Steel Magnolia Award celebrates woman from the Greater Cessnock and Upper Hunter regions.
The 2009 award was held at the gorgeous Hunter Valley Gardens and was generously supported by Newcastle Permanent, Hunter Valley Cellars, Ironbark Wines and Hunter Valley Gardens.
Lifeline Newcastle & Hunter would like to thank media partners, Singleton Argus, 1233 ABC Upper Hunter and Hunter Publishing as well as the many generous local businesses who provided gifts for the recipient and nominees as well as prizes for the luncheon's raffle.

Annual Men's Health Business Luncheon
Held in or near International Men's Health Week in June, the annual business luncheon is an opportunity for the local business community to come together to hear renowned guest speakers and to raise funds for Lifeline Newcastle & Hunter.
